Vaz slaps Jamaica Gleaner & PNP for ‘coordinated attempt’ to undermine government

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz is accusing the Jamaica Gleaner and the People’s National Party, PNP, of collaborating to undermine the government’s rural school bus programme.

In a story published on Tuesday, the Jamaica Gleaner reported that PNP president Mark Golding has approached major investigative agencies to probe what he described as irregularities with the procurement of the buses.

The newspaper referenced letters Golding wrote in July 2025, addressed to the Integrity Commission, Auditor General’s Department and the Major Organised Crime & Anti-Corruption Agency.

But hitting back in a statement, Minister Vaz says the letters were timed to influence the outcome of the September 3 general election. He said further that their use on the newspaper’s front page eight months later is telling.
